PORT LOUIS (Mauritius), Oct 13: It was a historic moment for India and Balwant Thakur when his highly acclaimed children’s play ‘Aap Hamaare Hain Kaun’ was staged here in Mauritius in four languages-French, Cerole, English and Hindi at Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix.
The most interesting part was not only the translation of the play in other languages but also its adaptation and assimilation in the respective idioms and culture.
Human concerns globally are the same, only one needs to have a larger perspective of the creative outreach. When contacted Balwant Thakur informed that he has bigger plans to take his kind of theatre which is unique both in terms of its content and form to a larger world canvas.
The current project in Mauritius he started in May, 2022 and trained not only young performers but also a team of directors who will carry his legacy to other parts of the country and will create a historic movement of this kind of new theatre in Mauritius.
Play ‘Aap Hamare Hain Kaun’ in a very effective manner shakes parents, educationists/ guardians of society out of reverie of materialism, consumerism and unbridled desires.
This play compels elders to look around and clear the mess they have created due to their own ambitions and rat race.
Parents see in their children an extension of their unfulfilled dreams and force them to become stereotypes and kill the bountiful charm in them.
