HPF demands compensation for flood victims of Rajouri, Poonch

JAMMU, Oct 8: Himalayan People’s Forum has demanded compensation for flood affected people of twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Stating that because of heavy rainfall and due to flood in the month of July and August this year, heavy loss and damages have occurred to the crops of the farmers, who do not have any other source of income and are completely dependent upon the crop produce, chairman of the Forum, Advocate Istkhar Ali Khan said they have not been compensated so far.
Moreover, the Government has not constituted any committee to assess the actual loss occurred to people of these twin border districts, Khan alleged and appealed the Government to compensate the affected people as early as possible to prevent any more suffering to them.
He also criticized the district administration of Rajouri for not releasing drought relief sanctioned for the year 2011-12 in favour of people of Tehsil Rajouri and Thanamandi and appealed the Government to direct the district administration of Rajouri to release the same before Eid-ul-Bakkar to the farmers.
