JAMMU, Oct 16: National convention of All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations was held at Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust, Jammu.
Theme for the convention was `Save Constitution, Save Rights.’ Various national and State level delegates attended the convention wherein Dr Udit Raj, National President of the Confederation, was the chief guest while R K Kalsotra, State President Confederation J&K, presided over the event.
Issues related to dilution of reservation, changes in the Constitution, increasing privatization, naming of new Parliament building as Dr B R Ambedkar Parliament House, rising cases of caste based atrocities, among others were discussed in the convention.
In his address, Dr Udit Raj said that the convention is a platform to discuss issues of reservation for the STs which recently got diluted by the Central Government. He said that this move of the Government was against the interests of the STs who deserve the reservation benefits. He further added that OBC reservation in J&K is only 4 percent even as Mandal Commission directs it to be 27 percent.
He demanded that the Parliament House should be named as Dr Ambedkar Parliament House because of his contribution to the making of the Constitution. He also highlighted the need of physical and financial contributions required to continue the movement.
In his address, R K Kalsotra alleged that there was constant dilution of the Constitution and the fundamental rights which are a precursor to the upliftment of the downtrodden and hence it was pertinent to strive to save them from further dilution.
Dr Om Sudha, National Secretary the Confederation, said that there was an extensive push for privatization of the Government sectors which was against the interest of the lower castes.
Dr Ratan Lal, Professor at Delhi University, alleged that the Modi Government was eyeing to change the secular character of the Constitution. He further added that policies like New Education Policy, changes in Army recruitment, creation of CDS, changing character of the State and bureaucracy among others are all symbols of reinstatement of Chaturvarna system. Thus, he added, it is the need of the hour to educate ourselves so that the change can be resisted and the Constitution and fundamental rights can be saved.
National delegates Dr Laxman Yadav, Dr Jitendra Meena and Sumit Chauhan also spoke on the occasion. Dr Sameer Choudhary conducted proceedings of the convention.
