Puran Bhat was gunned down by militants near his residence in Chowdhary Gund area of Shopian district in Kashmir last afternoon.
Sloganeering against Pakistan and terrorism sponsored by it along with the slogans demanding suspension of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir filled the air at the place of last rites.
About 3000 people were present to offer wood to the pyre of the deceased KP and there was resentment against the absence of any big leader at the cremation ground to console the bereaved relatives of the deceased.
“We were expecting BJP J&K president, Ravinder Raina on this occasion to share our grief but to our dismay no big leader visited us in our hour of grief,” Vikram Koul, who was present at the cremation ground, said.
He along with many others flayed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir for issuing orders of biometric attendance for PM package employees serving in Kashmir.
“Some school Headmasters have also issued orders to PM package teachers to join their duties within seven days else their salaries will be stopped,” Vikram Koul said adding that all these developments are mentally harassing KPs as none is safe in Kashmir.
DC Jammu, Avni Lavasa and ADGP Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh visited the cremation ground and expressed condolences with the bereaved relatives of the deceased who demanded Rs. 50 lakh compensation to the family members and a Government job for the wife of the deceased.
An elder KP who identified himself as M.K Yogi said the brutal killings of innocent KPs should be stopped and the Government should do something concrete in this regard.
With broken heart, Rakesh Koul, a KP Sarpanch at a village in Anantnag said: “What answer will our community and our Government have for the innocent kids of the deceased.”
He further said: “It was our community which was educated but had it some other community, things would be more tough and drastic for them.”
Speaking out his heart, the KP Sarpanch said: “You can’t trust anyone in Kashmir. Small boys of 10-12 years of age come under the influence of drugs and gun down people like they have killed some bird and this should be stopped immediately by some concrete measures.”
He further said that those KPs who are living in Kashmir for the last 32 years are either with some political party or some social organization.
Earlier, the body of Puran Krishan reached his Muthi residence in Jammu by 10 pm yesterday in an ambulance where the neighbours and relatives of the deceased were already present.
The grief stricken wife of Puran was inconsolable and other women were consoling her along with her kids.
Relatives of the deceased informed that he was popular among them with the name ‘Babblu’.
The funeral procession left home of the deceased at 10:45 am and cremation was over by 11:30 am.
Relatives of the slain KP said that he was living in Muthi but as he had no source of income here, he was looking after his orchard in Kashmir which was his only source of income.
