Patwari gets 19 month imprisonment in corruption case

JAMMU, Oct 19: The Court of Special Judge, Anti Corruption, Anantnag convicted the then Patwari Kreeri Shangus, Anantnag, Abdul Aziz Wagay in corruption case and sentenced him simple imprisonment for 18 months under Section 5(2) of J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and one year under Section 161 RPC and a fine of Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5000 under each offence for demanding and accepting Rs. 500 for issuance of revenue extract.
As per the case on January 31, 2009, a complainant approached SSP Vigilance Organization Kashmir (Now ACB South Kashmir) with a written complaint alleging that he approached Patwari Halqa Kreeri Shangus, Abdul Aziz Wagay for obtaining Revenue Extract (Fard Intikahab) of the land mutated in his favour and his brother after the death of his father and the Patwari demanded Rs 1000 as bribe for issuing the same which was settled to be paid on January 31, 2009.
The complainant produced Rs 500 for giving to the Patwari and requested for legal action against the official.
A case was registered at P/S VOK and investigation taken-up during which a trap team was constituted which caught the Patwari red handed demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 500 from the complainant.
After completion of investigation the chargesheet of the case was filed before the competent court.
The trial court after examining the prosecution witnesses and after hearing the Special Public Prosecutor and Defence Counsel convicted the accused Abdul Aziz Wagay.
