POONCH, Oct 19: All the stranded vehicles were cleared after the Mughal Road was restored by the authorities this afternoon.
The Mughal Road, connecting Kashmir division with Jammu, through Shopian and Poonch was closed on Tuesday afternoon due to fresh snowfall in Pir Ki Gali and other higher reaches. A large number of light and heavy vehicles were stranded on the road on both sides of the Pir Gali Pass.
The authorities first cleared light vehicles, followed by heavy traffic towards Kashmir. Thereafter, the movement of vehicles towards Rajouri and Poonch was allowed.
A Traffic Police officer said that about 1200 trucks and 400 light motor vehicles were stranded midway after fresh snowfall at Pir Ki Gali.
DySP Traffic, Rajouri-Poonch, Syed Aftab Bukhari said that soon after receiving the information of fresh snowfall at Pir ki Gali on Tuesday, vehicles moving towards Kashmir was stopped at Behramgala, Jogi Morh Surankote, Bhimber Gali, Manjakote, Poshana and other areas. The movement of vehicles was restored today and the road was cleared from Poonch side.
“The movement of vehicles was stopped after 6 pm in the evening on Wednesday and subject to the fair weather conditions, it will be allowed from both side tomorrow morning from 06 am upto 6 pm. The HMVs movement from Behramgala side to Valley shall be allowed from 06 am to 09 am in the morning”, he added.
