Don’t flare up tension: Gul

SRINAGAR, Oct 9: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul, today urged legislators not to issue statements aimed at flaring up communal tension in the State.
“I will not allow any member to give any statement which will lead to communal tension. This is a secular State. Don’t flare up communal tension”, the Speaker said in the House after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Panthers Party (NPP) members wanted to raise the issue of Rajouri violence in the Assembly before the Question Hour.
Speaker said that members from all political parties have the responsibility to help maintain communal harmony in the State. “The minister has made a statement in the House on the issue yesterday, do not raise it again and again. I have made it clear to all the members that I will not allow to raise any issue which will increase tension,” the Speaker said, directing the BJP and NPP members to resume their seats.
When the Opposition insisted, the Speaker allowed BJP MLA Ashok Khajuria to speak on the issue ahead of Question-Hour. “The communal harmony should be maintained in Rajouri”, said Khajuria adding that police is committing atrocities against members of one community. “Police is selectively arresting and targeting a particular community. I want a fresh statement from the government”, demanded the BJP leader.
PDP MLA Zulfikar Ali said some political parties are trying to give Rajouri incident a communal colour. He said that attempt to murder has taken place and anybody involved in the incident, irrespective of which community he belongs, should be punished as per law of the land. “Why BJP and NPP members wanted that police should not take any action in this case”? asked Zulfikar.
Ruling NC member from Poonch, Ajaz Ahmad Jan said he congratulates people of Poonch and Rajouri who took a joint procession after a boy was killed in an accident yesterday. “Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs joined the protests against the incident sending a clear signal that they will not fall into the trap of parties having vested interest. But some people are trying to disturb the peace”, said Jan.
