Unscientific dumping of solid waste

It is nothing less of a travesty that there is no organised and well planned method of disposal of generated waste material in Jammu and Kashmir. Dumping the collected material here and there in totally unscientific manner is causing health and hygiene related problems. Though National Green Tribunal and Pollution Control authorities have been periodically taking serious view of such a persistently followed practice and even the penal fees and fines known as environmental compensation too having been imposed and recovered , yet there appears to be no improvement.
In the same way, Municipal authorities of Bandipore Kashmir having been found violating the dumping rules were asked to pay a whopping amount as environmental compensation penalty. Now the matter having reached up to the Supreme Court indicates how much heat has been felt by the violating Municipality in respect of paying the fine. However, the Division Bench of the SC has taken a serious view of the problem of at random and haphazard manner of dumping the waste material by Municipal Committee of Bandipor Kashmir and turned down the pleas of seeking relief from the apex court in paying Rs.64.21 lakh as compensation for polluting the environment . Such a stand and taking serious view in matters of environment pollution by the SC shall prove a deterrent for other violators.
