Srinagar, Nov 2: The nursing students of the Government College of Nursing Baghi Dilawar Khan Srinagar today protested against the Health and Medical Education Department for failing to implement a recent Government order to take over administrative control of the college.
Scores of students assembled at the Pratap Park Press Enclave and raised slogans in support of their demands. They claimed that despite a three-month-old Government order to the department of Health and Medical Education to take administrative control of the college, it had not been implemented.
“Three months ago, the government issued an order stating that the Health and Medical Education department now has administrative jurisdiction over our college instead of the Higher Education Department. We are having a lot of problems because the order has not been implemented yet,” a student said.
She continued that since the higher education department had been released from the college’s administrative oversight, they were not subject to any governing body. “For the past three months, we have been rushing from pillar to post, but no one has listened to our complaints. Even our parents have traveled between offices to protect our future,” she said.
The students complained that they were not receiving the facilities provided at other Government colleges. “Their (students of other colleges) charge is less than Rs 10,000, however, our fee is close to Rs 50,000, and our admission fee is Rs 70,000, which is comparable to private colleges,” another student said, adding that the practical training is the most important aspect of the curriculum, yet they are unable to access any hospitals because they do not have a valid authorization.
