JAMMU, Nov 2: While the tenure for elected body of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is going to end after some months, Ward Number 46, which includes many parts of Sanjay Nagar, is yet to see resolution of issues dominating among those remained regularisation of residential areas, water crisis and numbering of houses at many places along with demarcation of the Ward.
This was revealed by Dwarka Chowdhary, Councillor of Ward Number 46, in an interaction with the Excelsior wherein he informed that his Ward includes the areas of Sanjay Nagar Sectors 1, 2, 3, 4, Extension-4 and some parts of Preet Nagar.
Chowdhary, a second time Councillor from Congress party and chief whip of the party in General House of JMC, informed that other issues which are still not resolved in his Ward include power crisis, the reason for which mostly remains frequent strikes by the concerned employees.
He also informed that a Nallah (deep drain) in the Ward which gets flooded in rainy days also awaits up-gradation or diversion to get some relief but the same could not be done due to official red tape while the issue was raised many times before the concerned authorities.
“The issue of regularisation of Sanjay Nagar colony is still pending and the colony has some 700 houses. JDA has prepared a list of colonies which will be regularised but nothing has been done in this regard so far,” the JMC Councillor maintained adding: “The Ward still requires some street lights at certain places and the issue was raised by me many times in General House Meetings of JMC but nothing has been done in this regard so far.”
He said that the issues of the Ward failed to get any solution due to the lackadaisical attitude of former Mayor and others at the helm as they did not took the issues seriously and failed to get the required funds for the development works from the government.
“Though the present Mayor has assured that officers of JMC shall accompany the Councillors to see the issues but nothing of that sort has so far happened on ground,” Chowdhary said.
He informed that when he became JMC Councillor in 2018, his Ward was having very few street lights and there were only a few Safai Karamcharis for maintaining cleanliness.
“There were also problems of garbage disposal, poor lanes and drains, power and water crisis, issue of stray animals while the widows, old age persons and physically challenged persons were facing problems in getting pensions, house numbering was not done at many places in the Ward and some part of Sanjay Nagar colony was not regularised.
“The Ward also lacked a playground,” the Councillor said adding that 85 per cent of lane-drain work in the Ward has been completed by now, blacktopping of lanes has been done while for garbage collection autos have been pressed into service for door-to-door collection of garbage and number of Safai Karamcharis have been increased in the Ward and many cases of pensions have been solved.
He expressed dismay over new procedure of pensions exclusively to BPL category beneficiaries.
Chowdhary informed that a High Mast light has been installed near a Gurudwara in the Ward and tile works has also been done there.
“During COVID-19 pandemic we helped sick people, maintained cleanliness and sanitized the Ward and distributed ration among the needy people with the help of JMC authorities,” he further said adding: “We have now developed a park in sector 4 at Rani Tallab with facilities like open air gym, benches for sitting, pathway for walkers, swings etc.”
He further said that during his this tenure he got two more high mast lights installed in the Ward with one at Sanjay Nagar extension.
“At Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park (in sector 1 of Sanjay Nagar) near Digiana, facilities like 38 globe lights and two gyms along with benches etc have been provided,” the Councillor claimed.
He said that 100 per cent blacktopping of the lanes has been done in the Ward and efforts are on to do the same again to further strengthen the same.
Chowdhary said that of the total requirement in his Ward, 90 per cent of street lights have been provided.
