China exports unexpectedly fall in September

BEIJING, Oct 12:   China’s exports unexpectedly fell 0.3 percent in September from a year earlier, while imports rose 7.4 percent, leaving the country with a trade surplus of $15.2 billion for the month, the Customs Administration said today.
That compared with market expectations in a Reuters poll  of a rise of 6 percent in exports, a 7 percent rise in imports and a trade surplus of $27.7 billion.
Total trade growth slowed to 3.3 percent in September, in part due to a high base effect from last year, customs said. (AGENCIES)
