RAJOURI, Nov 11: The people of Ward No. 1 Begunara of Sub Division Thanamandi blocked main road and protested against the Dharam Raj Construction Company and Jal Shakti Department.
The company, which is constructing the Rajouri-Thanamandi-Surankot road, has uprooted the water pipes at Manyal due to which the water supply in the area has been affected for the past one month, but the company and Jal Shakti Department have not restored the water supply. Due to which people had to resort to protest.
The protesting men and women raised slogans against the district administration and department. Local residents say that due to non-availability of water they are facing severe difficulties. They further said that they have to travel miles to get water from the spring. Protesting men and women criticized the Jal Shakti Department and the district administration, and said that only their area is being neglected while uninterrupted water supply is being ensured in the neighbouring villages.
In this regard, they said, if water supply is not ensured in his area within three days, they will be forced to intensify the protest. The protesting people demanded to ensure the supply of water in their area. Naib Tehsildar Thanamandi and Police party reached the spot and pacified the protestors. Then they lifted protest dharna from the road.
