Gigantic hike in permit fee suicidal for transport sector: Tony

JAMMU, Nov 11: The unfair, unjustified and unprecedented increase in the route permits charges for taxis, cabs, and even Auto-rickshaws is the testimony to the fact that BJP Government is hell bent to suck the blood of the common man to lead a royal life.
This was stated by Taranjit Singh Tony, Chairman of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu and Kashmir for Administrative Engagement and Minority Affairs, and DDC Member, Suchetgarh while speaking at the inaugural programme in Chatha near here, today.
Tony strongly condemned the move of J&K Government, which according to him is an offshoot of BJP Government in the Center, for a massive hike in Taxi permit fee from merely Rs 10,000 to over Rs 1.5 lakh. He said that the LG Manoj Sinha’s administration, which is dancing on the tunes of BJP’s Central dispensation has taken this decision as if the transport industry is booming under his leverage but the matter of fact is that taxi owners and drivers are facing the brunt of so many ordeals including some created by this very Government and are leading a hand to mouth life.
He said that this step will prove suicidal for the transport sector especially those running taxis, cabs and auto-rickshaws.
The senior AAP leader said it ludicrous that without creating any new avenues or giving any sops especially after the COVID crisis this Government in the UT and the one which is running this dispensation with remote control are expecting such colossal revenue assets from the segment of society which is already debit ridden and is struggling to survive the highest ever inflation gifted to nation by this group of inefficient and indifferent helmsmen who are expert in rhetoric but when it comes to run Government are novice like a new born baby.
“Confronting the mounting unemployment rate and poverty, the taxi driver community in J&K was somehow running their kitchen budgets but the insensitive Government of the J&K has now forced them to go to sleep with empty stomachs and give the major portion of their earning towards Government chests, which is most unjustified decision of any dispensation in the present times”
