CEC meets ECs, Doctors; expresses concern over rising Hepatitis ‘B’ cases

LEH, Oct 14: Keeping in mind the alarming detection of Hepatitis ‘B’ cases, Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar today convened a meeting of Executive Councilors and doctors of SNM Hospital at Council Secretariat.
Expressing serious concern over rising number of Hepatitis “B” patients, Rigzin Spalbar said that it is a high time to deal with the deadly disease with a comprehensive plan otherwise it will take no time to multiply this deadliest disease in small society like Ladakh and assured Councils full support in implementing the proposed plan on war footing.
Announcing Rs 30 lakh from the saving of LAHDC, Spalbar instructed senior doctors of SNM Hospital under the directions of EC Health Dr Sonam Wangchok to come up with a strategy plan within a week’s time targeting 100 per cent vaccination and screening of entire population and ensuring availability of all necessary medicines for the patients who are already infected with Hepatitis “B” under the plan in a given time frame.
He further informed the meeting that Council will involve all Councilors, Sarpanchs and schools to implement upon the plan spreading awareness about Hepatitis ‘B’ and HIV/AIDS.
Earlier, EC Health Dr Sonam Wangchuk informed the meeting that percentage rate of Hepatitis ‘B’ district is 4.7 per cent, which is a big concern.
Executive Councilors for Agriculture Sonam Dorjay, Executive Councilor Tourism Mohammad Shafi Lassu, Executive Councilor for Handicraft Gurmat Dorjay, Chief Planning Officer Tsering Wangchuk, Dr Punchok Angchok  DTO Leh, Deputy CMO Yangchan Dolma, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Nurbo Angchok, Gynecologist Dr Padma, Pediatrician Specialist Dr Rinchen Angmo, Dr Norphel, Physician Specialist Dr Ghulam, Integrated Counseling and Testing Center (ICTC) counselor Stanzin Dolkar were present in the meeting.
