JAMMU, Nov 14: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will tomorrow review various aspects of security scenario in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir at a high-level meeting of the Home Department.
Senior officers of the Home Department, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Intelligence agencies are expected to be present at the meeting to brief Sinha about security scenario in the UT especially the Valley, borders with Pakistan, anti-militancy operations, anti-infiltration grid etc.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) RK Goyal, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh, DG CID Rashmi Ranjan Swain, Additional DGP Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh and Additional DGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar among others are expected to participate in the meeting.
Sinha returned from New Delhi this morning where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and briefed them on security situation and development works going on in Jammu and Kashmir.
“A number of issues pertaining to the Home Department and Jammu and Kashmir are expected to figure at the meeting,” the sources said, adding winter preparedness of Police for anti-militancy operations in the Valley could also come up for review.
Top police officials are expected to project their issues including requirements at the meeting, they said.
Security scenario has been well under control in the Kashmir Valley with killing of large number of militants including many top commanders of various militant outfits. Situation in Jammu region is normal.
However, Pakistan continued to make attempts to push militants into Jammu and Kashmir from the Line of Control (LoC) but majority of such attempts are being foiled by the Army by killing the militants.
Drone activities have become potential threat especially along the International Border as Pakistan continued to send arms, ammunition, explosives and narcotics using flying machines. While majority of consignments sent from across the border are seized by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Police, possibility of some material reaching to the militants is also not ruled out.
“Anti-militancy operations in the Kashmir valley and strengthening of anti-infiltration grid on the borders are among priorities of security agencies,” the sources said.
Yesterday, the Lieutenant Governor had briefed the Defence Minister about security scenario in the hinterland as well as the Line of Control.
