Survey of damaged crops

Sir,
This is in reference to the news “50 percent of pulse crop damaged” DE, Oct 9. In this context , Dr B.C. Sharma, Prof and Head Agro-meteorology, SKUAST, Jammu has rightly mentioned that this year heavy rains during monsoon period, have damaged the pulse crops badly. It is remarkable to note that heavy rains have not only damaged the pulse crops of Jammu region but they have also harmed these crops in Himachal Pradesh, especially in the district Kangra as reported by Dr K.S.Thakur, Scientist Incharge, Chaudhary Sarvan Kumar, Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvidhyala, Palampur. Although heavy rains have proved a boon for rice crop  too much of these rains also damaged rice and maize besides pulses. This appears to have  happened in the plains and Kandi belt of Kathua district of Jammu Province. The damage of such crops lies in ther ranges of 30 to 50 %, which I think is too much. Untimely rains that occurred during 11th and 12th October 2013 have further aggravated this situation. I, therefore, request to the concerned Revenue Department to survey the area as earily as possible to authenticate the report already submitted by the Members of the Committee Constituted by the Directorate of Agriculture, Jammu
Early submission of the survey report by the revenue Department, will enable the worthy peasants / farmers to get compensation as per the laid out terms and conditions of the Government.  In the news,it has also been started by Dr M.K. Khushoo, ex Chief Scientist SKUAST, that the cause of delayed withdrawal of Monsoon is due to the presence of moisture in the western Rajasthan. This has eventually resulted in more humidity in the climate in Jammu as well as other parts of the Country like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh etc, which has caused more hot weather.
Yours etc…
