Audit Week celebrations begin at AG office Jammu

JAMMU, Nov 16: Audit Week celebrations commenced today at AG office complex, Jammu.
Specific programmes with participation of staff members and their families will be organized during the Audit Week i.e. from November 16 to 22.
Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurated Audit Diwas function today at the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) at New Delhi. C&AG of India Girish Chandra Murmu was among those present on the occasion. The event was also attended by officers and staff members of Offices of the Principal Accountants General (Audit and A&E), Jammu & Kashmir and the Regional Training Institute, Jammu through webcast.
It was on 16th November in the year 1860 that Sir Edward Drummond took over the charge as first Auditor General of India and therefore, the Day is celebrated as Audit Diwas to mark the historic origin of the institution of C&AG of India and the contribution it has made to the governance, transparency and accountability over the past several years.
C&AG of India is established under Article 148 of the Constitution of India and is empowered to audit all receipts and expenditures of the Union as well as State Governments. Reports of the C&AG of India are laid before Parliament or Legislatures and these reports are taken up for discussion by Public Accounts Committees and Committees on Public Undertakings.
