800 kg poppy straw seized from truck, 2 smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Nov 17: In a major success, Udhampur Police today recovered 800 kg of poppy straw which was being smuggled in a truck coming from Kashmir towards Udhampur.
The truck was intercepted at Jakhani and Police arrested its driver as well as his associate, who were smuggling the poppy straw.
Reports said that a Police team headed by SHO Udhampur Inspector Raghubir Singh under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Sahil Mahajan intercepted a truck bearing Registration Number HR67B- 5452, which was coming from Kashmir towards Udhampur.
During checking, Police recovered 800 kg of poppy straw from the truck following which driver of the vehicle and his associate were arrested on the spot. The arrested driver was identified as Gourav, son of Baljeet Singh, resident of Gugana, tehsil Gugana, District Sonipat, Haryana and his associated Nasib son of Mahaveer, resident of Gugana Caught.
In this connection, case under the Sections 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur for further investigation.
