POONCH, June 14: The shadow of firing at the Line of Contol (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sub-sector affected the trade at the Chakkan-da-Bagh LoC point in district Poonch as the Pakistani authorities did not open the gates today.
Officials sources said that 14 trucks loaded with banana and other goods were dispatched for Chakkan-da-Bagh from Poonch town early morning today. The Trade Facilitation Officer from Indian side also reached there around 10 am. The staff deployed on this side of the LoC kept waiting for long for the opening of the gate from the Pakistani side and conduct of routine trade activities as per agreement between the two countries.
After waiting for long they contacted their counterpart on that side on hot line. They received the response that in view of the firing on the LoC, the gates will not be opened today for the trade activities. TFO Indian side got in touch with the higher authorities and then directed the trucks to move back to Poonch.
A senior officer in district administration, Poonch said that he talked to his counter part Arshed Mehmood SDM Hajira, who told that as per instructions from the top, the gates will not be opened today in view of firing at the LoC. He said the situation will be reviewed tomorrow.
