JAMMU, Oct 16: Various students’ organizations today paid tributes to martyred students of 1966 agitation namely Gursharan Singh, Brij Mohan, Gulshan Handa and Subash Chander at Shaheedi Sathal, outside GGM Science College, here today.
To pay tributes to martyred students, Jammu Joint Students Federation (JJSF) started three days relay fast at Shaheedi Sathal, outside GGM Science College.
JJSF activists led by Chairman Kuldeep Singh Chib, president JJSF, Rajinder Singh Munna, working president Anuj Tandon, Principal GGM Science College, staff members along with students of the college lightened the traditional lamp at Shaheedi Sthal and garlanded the statues of martyred students at Shaheedi Sthal.
Later three activists of JJSF namely Baljeet Singh, Sandeep Singh and Jatinder Singh, president JJSF JU Unit sat on fast.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajinder Singh Munna said that every year October 16, 17 and 18 are observed as the Martyrs Day in Jammu as in 1966 four of the students namely Brij Mohan, Subash Chander, Gulshan Handa and Guru Charan Singh had faced brutal action of the then administration while raising their voice against the discrimination with Jammu region and laid down their lives for the sake of Jammu people.
Among others present were Pushvinder Singh Manhas, senior vice president Young Panthers, Sachin Singh, Shubham Jamwal, Rakesh Sharma, Rahul Bandral, Deepak Hans, Goutam Kumar, Abhishek, Raj Kumar, etc.
Jammu Kashmir Democratic Front (JKDF) Student Wing activists led its president Abhishek Slathia assembled outside GGM Science College and garlanded the statue of the martyred students.
Speaking on the occasion, Slathia said that every year from October 16 to 18, student community observes the Martyrs Day in remembrance of martyred students, who laid down their lives while raising their voice against the discrimination and fighting for the rights of Jammu in 1966. Students should take inspiration from these martyrs who laid their lives for the cause of Jammu people, he added.Slathia appealed the student community that they should make others aware of the contribution made by these martyred students.
Among others present were Nikhil Sharma, Rohit Kerni, Lalit Raina, Lalit Gandhi, Shubham, Ricky, etc.
Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists led by Ashwani Sharma, president, Jammu University and Arun Prabhat Singh Jamwal, city secretary, also paid tributes to the martyred students. Bhavishya Sudan, Mohinder Singh and Binny Sharma were also present.
