JAMMU, Oct 16: Reiterating its demand for ownership rights, the Evacuees Property Tenants Welfare Society, Jammu Province, has threatened to launch a vigorous agitation from the next month if the Government does not redress grievances of the EP tenants.
“We have suffered a lot because of callous attitude of the State Government and its Custodian Department, which are treating the EP tenants as unwanted and hostile,” alleged Inder Mohinder Tar Singh, president of EPTWS, while addressing a press conference here today.
Highlighting the grievances of EP tenants, he alleged that the Custodian Department was forcing them to adopt agitational path by not paying any heed to their demands and resorting to un-necessary harassment.
Listing the demands, which include ownership rights to the Evacuee Property tenants and appointment of a Custodian from Jammu region, Mr Singh announced that a fresh memorandum would be submitted to the Government for redressal of their grievances. “If no action is taken by the Government, we will launch a strike immediately after the Darbar Move to Jammu and the Society may even go for hunger strike and fast unto death,” he said and appealed all the political parties to extend their support to the EP Tenants Welfare Society over the issue.
Inder Mohinder Tar Singh also sought to clarify that the recent elections of the Society were illegal. The court has also restricted the so called office bearers not to converse business of the society till further orders, he added and appealed all the EP tenants to remain united for a joint struggle to get their rights.
Capt Yudhvir Singh of PoK DPs Front, Raj Kumar of RSYC, Sanjeev Kumar of JPPF, Satpal Saini, Sikandhya Devi, Hari Singh, Shanker Singh Chib, Bua Ditta and Jagdeep Singh were also present in the press conference.
