Court seeks documents on Avtar’s death

JAMMU, June 14: For second consecutive day today, Pakistan Army continued heavy firing on Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) in Nangi Tekri area of Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district leading to tension. However, troops from this side gave “controlled but effective and essential response’’ to ensure that tensions didn’t escalate but, at the same time, there was no further damage.
“Army sent a message on hotline to Pakistani troops to stop firing but there was no response yet’’, official sources said.
Body of an Army jawan Naik Rajinder Singh, who was killed in firing by Pakistan Army yesterday, was retrieved last mid-night during darkness by the troops. It may be mentioned here that Pakistan Army continued firing at the forward Army post yesterday and prevent the jawans to pick up the dead body of Rajinder Singh. Three jawans, who had gone to the post to retrieve the body, were also injured in the firing.
“Timely evacuation of the jawan might have saved his life. However, by the time the body was recovered, the jawan had died’’, sources said.
Pakistan Army also used mortars and automatic weapons in firing on the Indian posts in Nangi Tekri and surrounding area of Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district.
“A message was passed to Pakistan Army on hotline to restrain and de-escalate tensions but they continued firing. We gave controlled but effective and essential response to Pakistan firing’’, sources said, adding the intermittent firing from across the LoC continued till late this evening.
Pakistan Army used mortars, rockets, sniper and other automatic arms fire since yesterday afternoon.
Sources said situation had become tense on the LoC due to continued firing by the Pakistan Army but it was well under control.
They added that a flag meeting was likely to be held soon on the LoC to lodge a protest over frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan Army.
They pointed out that Pakistan Army had become frustrated due to their failure to facilitate infiltration attempts by the militants on the LoC. “It was due to this frustration that they continued to target forward posts of the Indian Army’’, they said, adding that morale of the troops was very high on the LoC and they were determined to thwart all infiltration attempts of the militants.
