KATHUA, Nov 25: The residents of Panchayat Sahar and Kathera continued the protest against the mining in Sahar Khud area under Panchayat Sahar and Kathera of Kathua tehsil.
On the sixth day of their protest ,the agitating people assembled at the bank of Sahar Khud in the Panchayat led by Sarpanch Bholi Singh and Naib Sarpanch Vikas Sharma and sat on protest dharna today also in support of their demand.
They raised slogans against the Mining Department. Sarpanch, Bholi Singh alleged that the mining mafia is now not sparing even the cremation grounds. They started mining near cremation ground posing threat to private as well as public land, he added.
He said that the mining block is allotted in Sahar Khud without the consent of the local people. It is posing threat to underground water level in the Panchayat and nearby villages Sahar, Sher Kotla and Kathera which are also badly affected.
The protestors demanded immediate stopping of mining in the Panchayat to save the environment and flora and fauna. They warned to continue the dharna till demand is met.
