Major tragedy averted

JAMMU, Nov 25: Police detected an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a mini-bus that was carrying around 20 passengers on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district today.

We received specific information that a matador is carrying a suspicious object. The vehicle was searched and a suspected object was found at 12 pm,” police said.
The matador was intercepted at the Nashri checkpoint.
The IED kept in a container in the back seat was found by the Bomb Disposal Squad which defused it safely.
An investigation is on to find out what is material used in this IED, the officials said.
The passengers and matador operators had a narrow escape with timely detection of the IED in the matador as the explosive device was capable of causing extensive damage and casualties.
Soon after finding the IED inside the matador, police personnel started massive search operation on the National Highway to nab the terror suspects responsible for planting the IED inside the matador to cause civilian casualties.
Though no arrests have been made so far but police was confident of identifying the terror suspects shortly to nab them and work out the blast case.
Few months back, the militants had thrown grenade on a Police Post in Gool under the jurisdiction of Ramban Police Station. However, the militants involved in throwing the grenade were arrested by police within few days.
The militants with the support of their Over Ground Workers are continuously making attempts to revive militancy in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts. However, majority of their attempts have been foiled by police and security personnel.
