Cable Car project

Few years ago, the exiting cable car project that would connect Mubarak Mandi with Bagh-e Bahu across Tawi had been floated. Much ground study has taken place in formulating this project before it was shown the green signal. But actually on the ground numerous hurdles had to be crossed before the project could take off. These may not be called hurdles as there are legal requirements that had to be fulfilled. Firstly there was the question of acquisition of land over which the cable would pass. It involved the Forest Department, National Wild Life Board, private land owners and the rest of it. By and large all these stages have been overcome and the project seems to be heading towards a good beginning. A Turkish and Kolkata based cable company with expertise in the field has been allotted the task of laying this 1.7 km long cable car (Gondola). However one important stage that had to be covered was the clearance from the National Wild Life Board which has approached the Apex Court for a verdict on the project. The Supreme Court deputed its expert team to the site. After its two visits the team has submitted its report to the Supreme Court and the case is likely to come up for a decision by the end of this month.
This Rs 40-crore project will give a new shape to connectivity issue in the city and 1.7 kilometer long cable will be of much significance to the people of the city. Besides adding to its beauty, it will make transportation more convenient and quicker. We now expect that the project will be completed on time and no delay will be allowed.
