Udhampur, Nov 27: DDC Member from Panchari-Moungri, Jasvir Singh today highlighted the severe electricity and water crisis in his area besides road connectivity challenges.
Addressing a press conference, here today, he said that common people in the area were facing serious problems due to heavy power cuts in rural areas. “On one hand there are power cuts for about eight hours per day and on the other hand there is continuous increase in electricity charges which is very difficult for poor families to bear,” he said and stressed that the administration needs to reconsider the decision of increasing the electricity fares to make it more rational.
Jasvir Singh further said that despite Government of India investing hugely to ensure the supply of water under the Jal Jeevan Mission, implementation of the scheme has flaws on the ground. “Big contractors are taking no interest in most of the bids while small contractors are not able to participate in the tenders thus causing delay in commencement of works,’ he explained.
The DDC member also drew attention towards delay in the ongoing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Alleging that Panchari- Moungri roads were still in poor condition, he said that this issue was raised at almost every level but no action has been taken by the administration.
“The administration should take immediate steps in this regard so that common people do not face problems,” he said, adding that Panchayati Raj Institutions have extended full cooperation to the Jammu and Kashmir administration, but there was a need for major changes in policy making so that issues of public interest can be resolved timely.
