Nagaland ICAR stresses on Oil seed production

KOHIMA Oct 19:  A one-day training cum seed distribution programme of oilseed and pea organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Dimapur, ICAR Research Complex for North East Hill (NEH) Region, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani under Dimapur district, under Tribal Sub Plan was held yesterday at the council hall, Dhansiripar village, Dimapur.
According to official sources today the programme started with a welcome address by Dr. Anamika Sharma, Programme Coordinator, KVK Dimapur under the chairmanship of Dr. S. V. Ngachan, Director,
ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Barapani, Umiam, Meghalaya. The Joint Director Dr. Bidyut C. Deka in his remark, appealed to the farmers to cultivate mustard/linseed as second crop after paddy/maize to have additional income from second crop and improve the socio economic status of farmers.
A total of 70 hectare area under Toria (oil seed) would be covered under Tribal Sub plan in Dhansiripar village of the district. Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, asked the farmers to continue cultivation of mustard/linseed to increase the area under oilseed crops as well as to improve the oilseed production in Nagaland particularly in Dimapur district. He also insisted on increasing the area by 2 to 3 folds in coming years.
A total of 500 kg of Toria seed variety TS-38 and Linseed variety Parvati at the rate of 25 Kg and pea variety Azad-1 at the rate of 60 kg were distributed to farmers of village. Around 50 farmers attended the programme. A total of 70 hectare area under toria and 2 hector for pea and linseed will be covered under
Tribal Sub plan in Dhansiripar village of the district.  (UNI)
