Pak targets BoPs on IB, fires mortars

JAMMU :  Tension escalated along the international border when Pakistan troops targeted Indian Forward Border Outposts and fired mortars, small arms and automatics and also nailed civilian areas too, official said.
The troops fired on border outposts in Samba, Kathua and Jammu districts late last night.
One intruder was killed when he was trying to sneak into Indian Territory in Samba district.
BSF troops also effectively retaliated the firing, which lasted till wee hours, with similar calibre.
Pakistan troops continued firing on forward Kharkota, Kharkal, AMK, Mangral in R S Pura sub-sector, Regal and Rajpora in Samba sector and Nikowal Border Outposts.
Indian posts were also targeted yesterday in Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts by Pakistan troops.
Pakistan rangers fired heavily on Forward Border Outposts (BoPs) in Ghagwal and Hiranagar Sectors of Kathua and in Jammu, they targeted Nikowal and Gharana posts in Ranbir Singh Pura and Pargwal Sectors of Akhnoor,” added official.
Two BSF personnel-Gangan Thakur and Hasda-sustained bullet injuries at Nikowal post and were shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital.
On October 17, five civilians including three children got injured in cross-border firing in Pargwal Sector.
However, panic gripped the border residents due to the ongoing cross border firing.
On October 16, Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire thrice in Kamalkote forward area of Uri belt, Krishnagati and Bhimbhergali subsectors of Poonch district and Mangu Chak and Khatav Border Outposts along international border in Samba district.
On October 15, Lance Naik M F Khan of 15 Bihar Regiment was killed when Pakistani troops opened fire at Indian forward posts in Hamirpur-Balakote sub sector in Poonch district.
On October 14, BSF constable M Basu was injured when Pakistani troops resorted to firing on Katav border outpost along the international border in Samba district.
In the backdrop of the increased ceasefire violations by Pakistan, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will visit forward areas along the IB on October 22 to review the security situation.
