KANPUR, Oct 19: Ploughing Uttar Pradesh poll turf having rich haul of 80 Lok Sabha seats, BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi kickstarted poll campaign in the state, chanting ‘vikas mantra’ while launching a vitriolic attack on the trio of Sonia-Rahul-Manmohan led Congress for various ills- sky rocketing prices of essential commodities and rampant corruption- ailing the country and the duo of Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for bailing out the ruling alliance at the Centre at the cost of the interests of ‘Aam Aadmi’.
Obviously mocking at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, an aggressive Mr Modi, Gujarat Chief Minister, said ‘Shahjada’ (prince) has not uttered a single word on the price rise and corruption, while both Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmnohan Singh maintained a “stoic silence” over the twin banes- price rise and scams.
Delving at length, he launched a no holds barred campaign against the Congress and said “those who were born with the golden spoon in their mouth, could not comprehend pain of poverty.”
Mr Modi, who spoke from Buddha Jayanti Park, as common public rally spot PhoolBagh was made out of bounds for him on certain grounds by the local administration, said he was impressed with the turn out and announced to the cheering crowd that “aap ka ye pyar, sood sahit vapas karunga” (I will repay this affection with interest).
Storming the caste politics ridden poll belt of the Hindi heartland, Mr Modi did not spare the SP and the BSP for “pursuing vote bank politics in collusion with the Congress” and charged up people to bury vote bank politics to pave way for an era of good governance and developmental politics.
On scams during the UPA regime, Mr Modi jockingly said it was not the case of missing coalgate files, “but the whole government is missing in the Centre”. He also deplored the Centre for what he described as pursuing “Biryani politics” with Pakistan who is involved in repeated violations on the LoC.
In an oblique swipe on Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal, Kanpur MP, the BJP’s PM candidate said “the pollution in Ganga was due to the coalgate”.
