Shutdown in Shopian, restrictions in Palhalan

Srinagar, Oct 19: The South Kashmir’s Shopian town observed complete shutdown today against arrest of youth during and after the protests over the killing of five youth including a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) last month while stone pelting was reported from Baramulla and Ganderbal areas over the arrest of youth by police.
The shutdown in Shopian was called by Imams of the local Masjid, who were demanding immediate release of the arrested men and withdrawal of cases against them.
The arrested persons include Mohammad Yousuf Fallahi, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader of the district, who has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).
In the meantime, curfew like situation continued for fourth day today in Palhalan after a police man died in an accident caused due to stone pelting four days ago. Administration imposed curfew like restrictions in Palhalan to prevent further stone pelting. Sources said that Army and police conducted searches in some localities in the area.
In North Kashmir district of Baramulla, one youth identified as Mohammad Amir was injured in firing of pellets on protests at Khanpora this evening.
Reports said that three youth were arrested by police yesterday and scores of youth came out to protest against their arrest. They were demanding their immediate release.
Police fired tear smoke and pellets at the protests during which one person was injured in pellet firing. He has been removed to SMHS hospital in Srinagar.
Scores of people today protested against the arrest of one Owais Ahmad Bhat for hurling a patrol bomb on SHO Kheerbhawani in district Ganderbal last evening.
Reports said that some youth hurled a patrol bomb at Barsu on Kheerbhawani SHO last evening. Police today arrested one youth Owais Ahmad Bhat of Wandhama.
Scores of people came out in Wandhama and tried to set ablaze house of a Police man. Police fired tear smoke shells.
