BHADERWAH, Dec 5: Indiscriminate dumping of solid waste along the roadside here is posing a constant trouble for the locals.
Heaps of garbage, mostly plastic wastes, decomposable domestic wastes etc are dumped at many places along the roads in the town.
“The illegal dumping not only affects humans and environment but also domestic animals,” said Zaffar Hussain Wani, a social activist.
“Since there are no dustbins in residential areas and solid waste is not collected regularly, residents pack the waste in plastic covers and throw it along the road,” he added.
Some locals said that waste from houses and from different functions are dumped regularly and sometimes set on fire by the civic workers causing air pollution especially in dry weather conditions.
Another local said that garbage is dumped regularly even by the local workers of Mohalla Khakhal Bhadarwah.
Neither the local body nor some agency acts against the dumpers.
“Building material like sand, gravel etc is dumped on sides of roads which remains unattended for days and months,” said Mohammad Salim Butt, Socio-Political activist.
Executive Officer Municipal Committee Bhadarwah, Yousuf-Ul-Umar said that they have waste collection vehicles that moves daily in all localities to collect waste matter in morning yet the people are habitual of throwing the garbage and other waste in open causing nuisance.
He warned the violators of strict action.
