JAMMU, Dec 9: Flood in Nallahs cause damage in some areas of Ward number 53 of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) when the gushing water from these deep drains enter residential houses there in rainy season while stray dogs in the area have become another prominent problem for the people there.
This was informed by Jyoti Devi, Councillor from the Ward who further said that there are two Nallahs in the Ward which cause flood in every rainy season and the water enters houses at Bhawani Vihar and Basant Vihar areas of the Ward.
She said that these deep drains need reconstruction for which estimate was made but it is awaiting funds for tendering process.
Jyoti, who politically belongs to BJP and is a first time Councillor said stray dogs also cause many problems in the Ward.
“These Canines not only litter here and there but also chase two wheelers and have created a wave of terror among children, women and old age people,” she claimed.
The JMC Councillor said that areas of her Ward include Sectors 1-4 of Trikuta Nagar including extensions along with Basant Vihar, Bhawani Vihar, Khu Wali Gali, Mangal Lane and Garden Estate.
She claimed that 70 per cent repair and construction work of drains has been completed in her Ward while the construction and repair work of lanes is almost complete barring one or two lanes of Khu Wali Gali.
The JMC Councillor claimed that a road stretch of 300 meters near J&K BJP Headquarters which was in very bad shape for 42 years has been blacktopped now while the lanes and drains that remained dilapidated for 14 years have also been repaired in the Ward.
She said that road blacktopping in her Ward is almost complete.
Jyoti said that Street Lights in her Ward have been installed but still 150 more such lights are needed while of the installed Street Lights the damaged ones are being repaired at snail pace due to non-seriousness of the agency concerned.
“There are 10 parks in my Ward and all of these are well maintained but the Floriculture Department does not give saplings and new plants for these parks and there is a need for a gardener on permanent basis to properly maintain these parks,” the Councillor said.
Jyoti also informed that there is one Health Centre in her Ward but neither there is any playground nor parking place for vehicles and the sewerage work has not been started in the Ward so far.
“My Ward has 42 Safai Karamcharis but still 10 more are needed for proper cleanliness of the Ward as it is a big Ward,” she maintained adding that Smart Meters have been installed in the Ward without any public resentment or protest.
“Few places in my Ward have hanging wires and damaged poles which could not be corrected so far due to red tape culture existing in the offices of J&K government,” the JMC Councillor said adding that there is also a public toilet in the Ward to facilitate the public.
“There are three garbage collector autos in the Ward which are doing a good work but three more such autos are needed as the Ward has been extended,” she further said adding that garbage dumps in the Ward are now seen nowhere.
Councillor Jyoti said that camps were organized in her Ward where people made their Ayushman Cards, Voter Cards, Domicile Certificates etc.
She informed that there is no Community Hall in the Ward and many widows, physically challenged and old age persons of the Ward are getting pensions but the newly introduced rule for these pensions exclusively to Below Poverty Line people is creating problems for many deserving people.
The JMC Councillor said that cases of thefts involving iron gratings have been reported from her Ward and there are many drug addicts and peddlers active there for which the police should take a cognizance.
She informed that JMC has installed some water coolers in the Ward to facilitate the passersby with cold water in hot summer days.
Referring to the recent corruption allegations against her the Councilor said that it was a conspiracy against her.
“The Contractor involved in Smart City project uselessly dragged my name while a Councillor has nothing to do with clearance of bills of Contractor of Smart City project,” she claimed.
