Of late, especially after COVID Jammu has seen sudden rise in illegal activities, frequent chain snatchings, bike/car thefts, firing incidents, bomb blasts and latest to list is broad day light dacoity in posh locality of Green Belt at Gandhi Nagar. Shocking is the fact that so many persons trespass a home on main road with District Police Line at a stone’s distance. More serious is the fact they carried sophisticated latest arms and were able to hold hostage the entire family for hours together. Another aspect is that after looting they took the head of house along with them but luckily dropped him near Bikram Chowk. Where were our much hyped nakkas or flying squad at vital points like Tawi bridge? With only previous night grenade attack at Sidhra Bridge check post, this time again police has been caught off guard. With so many incidents of blasts in recent past and arms/ammunition seizures why SOPs are not in place? Every time police goes into knee jerk reaction mode for few days and then again guards are lowered down for next incident to happen. Prime business houses are always on target as such proactive vigilance is always a welcome step. Rising drug menace in and around Jammu, thefts and other anti social activities are definitely exponentially up in Jammu Division and as such immediately demands attention of the administration. Door to door police verification of all the outsiders is the need of the hour. Serious security lapses are occurring time and again and it’s time to fix accountability and if needed heads must be rolled, after all, there has to be no compromise on public’s safety issues.
