JAMMU, Dec 10: The PG Department of Medicine GMC Jammu in collaboration with Jammu Doctors Foundation organised a CME on Acute Ischemic events today under the patronage of Dr.Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal & Dean.
Dr. Fayaz Wani HoD Medicine & Dr. J.B. Singh were the organising Chairman & Organising Secretary respectively.The CME was inaugurated by Dr. Ghanshyam Saini officiating Principal.
The CME brought together multiple Departments including Cardiology, CTVS, Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Radiology, and anesthesia etc which are actually involved in the management of acute ischemic events.
As per WHO, globally number one and number two causes of death are MI and stroke. In India also the number one cause of death is MI & same is the case with J&K too. It was emphasized that early management/ intervention in Ischemic events can make a lot of difference in the outcome of such patients.
The general public also needs to be made aware of the symptoms and signs of these Acute Ischemic events, so that they seek medical attention early and receive treatment in time.
The preventive measures include: healthy diet and exercise, weight control, avoid smoking and alcohol, control of blood sugars, control of blood pressure and control of lipids. Besides, unnecessary exposure to cold should be avoided especially during early hours of mornings and evenings.
The alarming symptoms in case of heart attack are chest pain, sweating, shortness of breath and giddiness while in case of stroke are sudden onset weakness of one side of body, slurring of speech, deviation of face and loss of consciousness.
The CME was attended by HoDs, Administrator AHJ,Faculty, Med. Suptds. Residents, Nursing Staff and large no.of Physicians & DNB residents from the Peripheral Health Institutions.
