JAMMU, Dec 10: Assistant Regional Transport Officer (HQ), Jammu, Mohd Saleem and ARTO (Flying Squad), Jammu, Tara Mani organized an awareness programme at Trial Ground Narwal behind Wave Mall, Jammu to apprise the transporters, drivers/conductors and general public about the recent amendments made in J&K Motor Vehicle Rules, 1991 regarding “Contract Carriage Permit Rules”.
During the programme, RTO Jammu briefed about the whole procedure of obtaining permits for the (Contract Carriages) which have been simplified as there is no need to apply for “Letter of Authority” which earlier was mandatory before applying for registration of Contract Carriage vehicles.
“Further, the contract carriage permit shall be granted to a new vehicle which is compliant with BS-VI or the latest norms laid down by Bharat Stage Emission Standards of Government of India. However, it shall not be applicable to any vehicle for which LA has already been issued prior to the date of issuance of the notification and any vehicle for which ‘All India Tourist Permit’ has been issued and permit holder applies for its conversion to local permit after a period of 12 years,” he disclosed.
The RTO further informed that any person who intends to purchase a fresh vehicle under all ‘J&K Contract Carriage Permit’ have to submit an application along with Domicile Certificate, RC of the vehicle for which the route permit is sought, present address proof, Character Certificate to be issued by the concerned Police Station, copy of the Driving License of the applicant or driver, declaration in an affidavit regarding the number of transport vehicles already owned by the applicant either registered in the name of applicant or in the name of firm/company and availability or arrangement of parking space either public or private for existing and for the new vehicle for which the applicant desires to obtain a route permit.
