An official said that the two-storey house at New Colony in Rajpora had come up on state land and was demolished by the district administration in the presence of police.
Nengroo is a wanted JeM commander and an accused in the 2019 Pulwama attack on CRPF convoy.
In April this year, the Central Government declared Nengroo as a “designated terrorist” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
He has been accused of being involved in the infiltration of militants into Jammu and Kashmir. “He is running a terror syndicate in Kashmir and is now engaged in a perilous campaign to orchestrate terror in Jammu and Kashmir remote controlled from Pakistan,” an official said.
He was earlier tasked to ferry infiltrated militants from Jammu to Valley and as per reports he ferried 20 Pakistani militants between 2016 to 2018 besides huge quantity of arms and ammunition into Valley using his trucks.
His brother Abas Nengroo was an active militant of JeM during 2011 to 2013 and was later killed in 2013 in an encounter at Achgoza in district Pulwama.
Ashiq Ahmad Nengroo started working as OGW for the JeM and besides providing every possible assistance to militants he was also transporting smuggled weapons in his vehicle.
He was arrested by Police Station Pulwama in case (FIR No. 129/2013 U/S 302 RPC, 7/27 IA Act) in 2013 and was later bailed out.
In September 2018, Udhampur Police intercepted one truck JK03F 1476 at Jhajjar Kotli which was ferrying militants. They managed to escape but two OGWs Iqbal Rather of Chrar-i-Sharif Budgam and his brother Reyaz Ahmad Nengroo who was driving the truck were arrested.
“A case FIR No 89/2018 u/s 307,120B, 121/122, 123 RPC, 7/25, 26/27 IA Act, 16,18 UA (P) Act was registered in P/S Jhajjar Kotli. The case was later transferred to NIA and Ashiq Nengroo was charge sheeted as accused before the court of law. Vehicle used in the crime was also seized by the investigation agency. NIA on 26/02/2020 also seized another truck of Nengroo bearing Registration No. JK03G-1621 which was registered in the name of Jehangir Ahmad Bhat son of Noor Mohammad Bhat of Khanabal Anantnag but was brought and operated by Nengroo”.
As per police, he was also involved in killing of one civilian Azad Ahmad Dar son of Mohmmad Abdullah Dar of Kangan Pulwama in 2020. The attack was carried out by militant Zahid Ahmad Wani, Owais Amin, Yasir Parray, alias Furkan. “During investigation, it was established that the attack was carried out at the behest of Ashiq Ahmad Nengroo and he was mastermind behind the attack on the eve of Independence Day,” police said.
