Temple theft worked out, stolen idol crowns recovered

Arrested thief in Police custody alongwith gold crowns and other recovered items.

REASI, Oct 21:  Within twenty four hours, Police successfully worked out the theft case in Devi Pindian temple at Panthal and recovered stolen items worth more than Rs 13 lakh besides arresting the accused.
According to DIG Udhampur-Reasi, Range Gareeb Dass, the arrested thief has been identified as Paviter Singh of Ladda Udhampur, who had decamped with three gold crowns of the idol and some other items. He was arrested from a forest area in Ladda where he was hiding after the theft. All the stolen items, including three gold crowns, have been recovered on his disclosure.
As reported in today’s edition, the accused Paviter Singh had stayed in the temple premises for a shelter on Saturday  night and  decamped with three gold crowns, a blanket, cash of Rs 272 and a bronze bell when the priest Dev Raj  was performing puja yesterday  morning.
After coming to know about the theft, the priest had approached Police and lodged a report in this regard at Police Station Katra.
Following the theft, DIG Gareeb Dass had constituted a special team headed by SSP Reasi Mohd Sharief Chouhan who alongwith Incharge PP Kakryal, Ranjeet Singh Rao conducted a series of raids and arrested the accused besides affecting recovery of the stolen items.
