Legal Metrology books 3 companies, realizes Rs 60000 fine

JAMMU, Oct 21: Acting swiftly on complaints about the traders dealing with readymade garments, the Department of Legal Metrology, Jammu booked M/s Baccarose Perfumes and Beauty Products, Mumbai, Givo Retail Pvt Ltd., Gurgaon and M/s Kapsons Fashion Pvt. Ltd. for violation of provisions relating to mandatory declarations like MRP, PKD, consumer helpline and address of manufacturer and packer. The leading retail store at Jammu had put up stickers to hide the important declarations for the information of the Consumers.
The enforcement team of Legal Metrology headed by Manoj Prabhakar Dy. Controller, Legal Metrology, Consumer Protection, Jammu and assisted by Mohsin Khateeb, Inspector, Legal Metrology, Jammu (Lower) examined all the packages of garments, perfumes and other apparels and found deficiency in the mandatory declarations, said Joint Controller Legal Metrology Amar Singh.
Accordingly, the manufacturers of the products were booked for violation of various provisions of Legal Metrology, Act. The department imposed and recovered a penalty of Rs. 60000 from the defaulters and assurance was undertaken for fulfilling all the requisite formalities in future.
The department has appealed the trading community not to alter MRP fixed by the manufacturer by using gun stickers failing which stern action will be taken against them.
