Quakes jolt Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 21: Two earthquakes measuring 5.4 and 5.5 on the Richter scale hit Kashmir today. However, there was no loss of life or property.
According to a spokesman of the Met Department, tremors were felt at 1:16 am today as earthquake measuring 5.5 shook earth in Kashmir. In some areas people rushed out of their homes in panic and took shelter in open spaces but most of the people remained indoors.
The epicentre of tremor was traced at Kashmir-China border near Skardu. There were no reports of any loss of life or damage to property.
Another quake measuring 5.4 with the same epicentre hit Kashmir at around 7.27 a.m. It was reported at a depth of 10 kilomters below earth’s surface.
