NEW DELHI, Dec 13: During ongoing Parliament Session, Member of Parliament from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal raised demand for construction of 100 km road between Korzok Tsomoriri to Kiato to connect Leh Ladakh with Chandigarh/Ambala/Bilaspur via Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh.
Raising the important demand in Lok Sabha, Namgyal highlighted that the existing 543 km long Manali-Leh National Highway takes 15 hours traveling and people have to cross four more passes of Baralacha La, Lachung La, Nakee La and Taglang La even after throughout the Atal Tunnel at Rotang Pass for regular traffic, and due to heavy snowfall at all these four passes the border region of Ladakh remains cutoff with rest of the country.
Pressing his demand hardly, Ladakh MP also mentioned that the ambitious Bilaspur-Manali-Leh Railway project is also proposed from same Manali-Leh Highway route tunnelling all these mentioned passes which will cost a huge budget. Namgyal put forth his demand in Lok Sabha saying that to construct a 100 km road between Korzok Tsomoriri of Leh District to Kiato via Tagling in Spiti valley in Himachal Pradesh will be more feasible as well as a very low cost project to give more feasible all-weather connectivity to the border region of Ladakh.
“This new route will also help to develop an alternative National Highway as well as Railway route to connect Leh Ladakh with either Chandigarh, or Ambala or Bilaspur via Korzok-Kiato-Kaza-Kinour without any Tunnel in between,” the MP said and appealed Government of India, especially Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Road Transport and Ministry of Railways to consider this demand and examine the matter for necessary action in the interest of nation.
