Irate villagers protest, block road against drinking water scarcity

KATHUA, Dec 14: The residents of village Gurha Suraj held a protest demonstration and blocked the College road in front of PHE Office against the shortage of drinking water.
Numbers of people including the women drawn from village Gurha Suraj of Hiranagar assembled in front of Executive Engineer, PHE Office Kathua and lodged protest demonstration against the department. They were raising anti PHE slogans and in support of their demands. They blocked the College road for half an hour to register their protest.
A police team led by DySP, Shammi Kumar reached on the spot and asked the protesters to restore the traffic on the road but the protesters did not budge. The residents showed anger over the action of police and demanded that their demand of drinking water be solved.
The villagers including Vijay Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Sham Lal, Gulab Din and Bharat Ali said that they are facing acute shortage of drinking water in their village and PHE Department did not make any alternative arrangements of water supply tankers in the village. They were facing problem since last 15 days . They were forced to move to Executive Engineer’s Office Kathua to highlights their demands, they added.
Earlier no one listened to them and they have been left at the mercy of God . The PHE officials also reached on the spot and assured them to solve their problem soon. On the assurance of officers they lifted the protest.
