Addressing a press conference here today, president of the Association Anan Sharma, vice president Chaman Lal and general secretary Manmohan Singh alleged that a very strange, illegal, immoral and irregular practice has been witnessed here these days as the three main Oil Marketing Companies having bulk depots at Jammu are hiring the services of the transporters from outside J&K, which is causing massive losses to the J&K Oil tanker operators who have contract agreement with these companies and ensuring supplies to all the tough areas of J&K including Kashmir and Ladakh.
With this illegal practice and new development, the J&K tanker operators and their staff has been sitting idle and facing starvation. The Jammu based owners of the oil tankers have attached their vehicles with these OMCs having secured work permit from the concerned agencies. The companies are now have initiated illegal practice of hiring services of big trailers of 35-40 KL capacity from transporters of Punjab, Harayana, Rajasthan etc. and procuring supplies from Bathinda, Jallandhar, Sangrur and some Rajasthan locations.
This illegal and immoral move has rendered the legally tendered and duly attached local TTs with these OMCs jobless. Many of the drivers and cleaners / operators are facing starvation. The owners are unable to pay the bank installments.
The Association sought the intervention of Lt Governor’s Administration and higher authorities in the Oil Companies to intervene into the matter otherwise J&K oil tank operators will be forced to withdraw their vehicles from the carriage contract.
