BANDIPORA, Oct 22: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad today visited Kudara, the remotest part of Bandipora district, and distributed solar lanterns, free of cost, among 746 families of 9 un-electrified villages of the area. 700 more solar lantern are targeted to be distributed during this year
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister reaffirmed the resolve of the Government to provide basic amenities to the people, adding that special and focussed attention is being given towards the people living in hilly and remote areas of the State. He said necessary instructions have been issued to the District Administration to bring maximum villages under the ambit of welfare schemes launched by the Government across the State. He said that all un-electrified villages would be brought under RGGY scheme of Power Development Department.
The Minister asked the Gujjar and Bakerwal communities to come forward and take the benefits of the welfare schemes introduced by the Government in different sectors. He asked them to come forward for getting their basic facilities, besides their share in other schemes of the Government.
Mian Altaf said that 700 more such lanterns will be distributed among the remaining families of the area during this year, adding that 100 Home Solar Lights are being procured for installation in religious places of the district. He asked people to extend their cooperation to the executing agencies for taking forward the on-going development projects started in the area.
Former MLA, G. R. Naz and senior officers from Wullar Conservation and Management Authority (WUCMA) accompanied the Minister.
