Dogra Haat, milk processing centre strengthening rural women: MD JKRLM

JAMMU, Dec 16: Mission Director Jammu Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) Indu Kanwal Chib today visited Chenani Block of Umeed District Udhampur, interacted with the Self Help Groups members (SHGs), PRIs.
During the visit the Mission Director was accompanied by Block Development Chairman Chennai, Prakash Chand , SDM Chenani, Parvaiz Naik, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Chenani, Dr Rakesh Gupta, District Programme Manager and Block programme Manager of JKRLM and line department officers.
On the occasion, the Mission Director inaugurated Dogra Haat at Dramthal Narsoo in Block Chennai District Udhampur. The haat has been established to boost economy by promoting and selling products such Handicraft, handloom items, Pickles and Solar dried items. Dogra Haat shall serve fresh Dogra Food and shall also be a first socio- economic and cultural promotional point at block Chenani.
The haat will also offer local dogra food to customers while acting as a sales point outlet for local products.
Later, the Mission Director also inaugurated Milk processing unit at Naidasoo Uppar Kud in collaboration with ICICI Foundation.
In addition to this, insurance claims were settled and the grant was distributed to the legal nominees of self help group members who had died due to natural death under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana(PMJJBY),also, certificates and vermi Beds were distributed among the members who had undergone for the related training.
The Mission Director said that Dogra Haat and Milk processing unitshall act as a boon of income for SHG women in chenani as they shall serve as center point of economy for major Self help groups.
On the occasion Block Development Chairman Chenani, Prakash Chand apprised Mission Director and the line departments about different sectors wherein SHGs can explore and expand their livelihoods. The different opportunities available under tourism sector in block Chenani can help SHG’s in opening stay homes and take up the role of tourist guides, he added.
Later the Mission Director held a meeting with Patnitop Development Authority(PDA) ,CEO Sher Singh and Hoteliers who were brainstormed about the possibilities of roping in the SHG members involved in production of dairy products and other eatables.
