Refugees pay tributes to 1947 martyrs

JAMMU, Oct 22: Various refugees’ organizations paid rich tributes to the martyrs of 1947 in different functions organized in the region today.
MJR-47, Movement for Justice for Refugees of 1947 from PoK, observed Martyrs Day today in the memory of  over 50,000 men, women and children who attained martyrdom in the Tribal attack on October 22, 1947  on J&K  including areas of  Muzaffrabad, Mirpur, Poonch, Bagh, Kotli etc. Prayers, meetings were held in the morning at various places all over Jammu province in various refugee colonies and tributes were paid to the martyrs of 1947 who sacrificed their lives for the honour and lives of their women and children and their motherland, fighting and resisting the raiders who were aided and fully backed by Pakistani Army.
The MJR-47 also took out a peaceful scooter-car rally from Gadigarh to R S Pura tehsil headquarters.  More than 100 motor-cycle and cars joined the rally. They were carrying placards depicting their demands and issues.  Om Parkash Khajuria was leading while Dr Padam Raina and Krishan Lal Raina  addressed the rally at tehsil headquarters.
Meanwhile, a delegation of MJR-47  members submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu.
PoJK Refugee Sanghrash Morcha paid tributes to the Martyrs of  1947, who were killed by invaders aided by Pakistani troops  from the areas of  Jammu and Kashmir occupied in October 1947. Dr Narinder Singh convenor of the Morcha said that the Kashmir issue starts from the day of October 22, 1947 when the first bullet was shot by the Tribal raiders in 1947.  Dr Singh while addressing the gathering here projected the issues of the refugees of 1947 and criticized the Governments at the Centre and State.  He said the displaced families are struggling since long but the respective Governments have failed to provide them justice. He also demanded that DPs be provided at least eight seats in the J&K legislature as 24 are already reserved in the State Legislature.
