Srinagar, Oct 22: The State High Court today directed Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department to file an affidavit regarding measurement, quality of water, status of Sewage Treatment Plant and cleaning of water body at Brari Nambal Lagoon.
The court observed that keeping in view the jurisdictional conflict between LAWDA and SMC, a Division Bench of High Court Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice M H Attar directed the affidavit should depict how illegal constructions have come up in Brari Nambal, besides, suggestions and measures taken to protect the water body.
Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a law student seeking protection of the Dal Lake, Brari Nambal issue cropped up in the arguments after the court examined the status report filed Chief Engineer UEED and pointed out that the STP installed at the water body has stopped functioning.
“We feel that instead of repairing the STP, it would be better to purchase a new one,” the bench observed.
