NEW DELHI, Dec. 22: MP Rajya Sabha, Gulam Ali Khatana today raised the issue of urgent public importance in the House on implementation of Power Projects in Transmission Sector in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Khatana in his statement during special mention thanked the Government of India and RK Singh, Minister for Power, for his personal intervention in the improvement of power sector in J&K. He said, it’s because of PM’s special focus, the Hydroelectric projects like Kiru-Kawar, Pakkal-Dul & Rattle on the Chenab basin, with a combined capacity of around 3000 Mega Watt, are in the process of execution.
This capacity is equivalent to the capacity addition in J&K for last 75 years.
He further said that the GoI has also been generous towards implementation of Transmission and Distribution projects in the UT under various Centrally sponsored schemes the fruits of which have already beginning to be felt. To anchor the gains achieved in this sector the GoI has already granted technical sanction for a transmission plan for J&K costing around Rs. 4971 crore vide Letter No. CEA-PS-11-22(15)/1/2018-PSPA-1 Division -Part(1) dated 18.06.2021. Implementation of this plan within next 2 to 3 years is very essential to ensure that quality power 24×7 is available to the people of J&K.
“I would request the Minister to fix a time plan of the Government for implementation of the projects in the Transmission Sector in J&K and strategy of their funding. What are the time lines for completion of these projects,. As I have already mentioned that these projects should come up in next 2-3 years for enabling the fruits of the hitherto investment in power sector of J&K to reach the consumers”.
“I, therefore, urge the Government to fix a time line for implementation of transmission & distribution projects in UT of J&K and ensure its timely completion”, said Khatana.
