JAMMU, Dec 22: Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman of National Commission for Minorities Govt of India visited Digiana Ashram Jammu to get blessings of Mahant Manjit Singh from Dera Nangali Sahib.
Mahant Manjit Singh, head priest Dera Nangali Sahib Poonch along with Sangat welcomed Iqbal Singh and apprised him of the demands and problems confronting the Sikh community of Jammu and Kashmir. Sudarshan Singh Wazir Chairman Sikh United Front Jammu and Kashmir projected the demands of Sikh community regarding which memorandum was submitted several times to the concerned authorities.
He demanded that the Punjabi language be made as official language and Enactment of Sikhs Anand Karaj Act in J&K, installation of statue of Baba Banda Singh Bhadhur at Kunjwani Chowk Jammu, a Sikh should be member in Service Selection Board. Wazir said out of eight seats for Assembly and two seats for Parliament four seats of Assembly and one of Parliament be allotted to Sikhs of Jammu province and four seats of assembly and one of Parliament be allotted to Sikhs of Kashmir province. It is also demanded that the quota for recruitment be fixed to provide the job to educated unemployed who belong to Sikh minority community. The representation to a Sikh be given in the Public Service Commission.
It was also demanded that the pending rehabilitation out of Rs 30 lakhs be released in favour of refugees of Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
Iqbal Singh Chairman of Minority Communities of India listened patiently the demands projected by Mahant Manjit Singh and assured that he will discuss all the issues of Sikh community of Jammu and Kashmir UT with Lieutenant Governor of J&K UT Manoj Sinha and Prime Minister. Mahant Manjit Singh presented Saropa to Iqbal Singh.
Senior members Darbinder Singh, Karan Singh, Gajan Singh, Rajinder Singh, Ravinder Singh, Kulwant Singh and Mohimnder Singh were also present.
