JAMMU, Dec 23: To implement various green initiatives under its Green Campus Task Force (GCTF-JU), University of Jammu today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES), Lucknow.
The MoU envisages collaborative studies, preparation of feasibility reports for provisioning of solid and liquid waste management, management of hazardous waste, water conservation, environmental audits and providing training and industrial exposure to the students and research scholars of the University in various environmental sectors.
Prof Arvind Jasrotia (Registrar, JU) and Gyan Mishra (Representative of Additional Director, RCUES), signed the MoU in presence of Prof Umesh Rai (Vice-Chancellor, JU). Prof Umesh Rai assured all the support for the development of a sustainable University campus. “In order to stimulate environmental consciousness and stewardship, active participation of students and research scholars should be encouraged in such initiatives”, he emphasized.
Prof Seema Langer (Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences) acknowledged efforts of the faculty members of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA) for the initiative.
Gyan Mishra (Senior Consultant with RCUES Lucknow) highlighted that the MoU will facilitate effective utilization of the expertise and advisory services of RCUES in various environmental domains by involving the active participation of the students which will inculcate in them a sense of belongingness to the University.
Prof Piyush Malaviya (convener GCTF-JU and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences) and Dr Deepika Slathia (member secretary) briefed the objectives laid out in the MoU.
Dr Meenakshi Kilam (Director DIQA), Dr Neeraj Sharma (Special Secretary to VC), Dr Vinay Thusoo (Media Incharge), Puneet Babbar (RCUES) and Amit Targotra (QAO) were also present on the occasion.
