Srinagar, Dec 31: Doctors at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla have successfully performed a thrombolysis procedure for acute inferior wall myocardial infarction known as ‘heart attack’, using a “novel drug” Tenecteplase (TPA).
GMC said that doctors at its Accident & Emergency Department performed the procedure using TPA Friday last.
“The drug showed significant recanalization within just 15 minutes of its use,” GMC said, adding it is the first time the drug has been used in GMC Baramulla for thrombolysis.
The doctors said that the drug being expensive is a life-saving one and has been kept available for such patients.
“The patient was diagnosed with Acute IWMI with ST1 in leads II, III & aVf & successfully thrombolysed within 15 minutes using Tenecteplase, as efficient as PCI.”
Dr Parvaiz Masoodi, Medical Superintendent of GMC Baramulla congratulated those who were involved in the procedure.
